Paleo observation

We decided to go the Paleo way for 30 days, give it a try, see what all the fuss was about.

So whats Paleo?? Basically its a diet based on meat, fish, nuts, leafy greens, seasonal veggies, seeds and some fruits. So no pasta, rice , wheat, sugar, grains, legumes or pulses. Contrary to belief it is not supposed to be a high protein diet but a moderate protein, high fat, low carb diet. Its a clean unprocessed way of eating.

Here are some observations which we would like to share:

Paleo observation #1 - you will go through a LOT of eggs!

Paleo observation #2 - You need to be prepared for work breakfasts as the handy oats or toast option is out.

Paleo observation #3 - it will cost ya! Grains, pasta, rice etc are cheap and stretch to a few dinners. Extra meat and veg plus nuts all add up to an extra approx. 30% on my weekly shop.

Paleo observation #4 - you wont be hungry, even without the foods that are supposed to 'fill' you!

Paleo Observation #5 - Just when you think your doing so well and getting pretty confident you will be hit by MAJOR bread / pasta / crackers / chip cravings!!! But they pass.

In short we liked paleo, we felt good, tummies flatter , more energy. However some legumes and pulses have crept back in, the wheat hasn't. This works for us, and isn't that what its all about, finding a diet that works for you, the individual.
